Teresa Mast actually questioned Nicole Rissler
(https://youtu.be/viQ50Ua0AfM ) before the unanimous vote to purchase Camp Venice on May 6th, 2025. She she worried about the residents or the contract being jammed up by residents? You decide
Email tmast@scgov.net
Joe appears to be sympathetic to the residents and has asked his staff to review the contract.
We have not given up on Joe yet.
Email jneunder@scgov.net
Tom is actually the Commissioner for the Camp Venice Area but was not responsive to pleas for help from the residents.
This is extremely disappointing as some of the residents voted for Tom last year.
Email tknight@scgov.net
She has by her own admission been trying to buy the Camp for 6-7 years. She put the contract together with Robert Kurens which makes no mention of the permanent families living on the property. Watch her being questioned by Teresa Mast before the vote. ( https://youtu.be/viQ50Ua0AfM )
Is it just me or does she refuse to call the Park Model Homeowners tenants or residents?
They all ran on transparency but the homeowners in Camp Venice were left in the dark and had no say whatsoever in the sale that is causing them to lose their homes. You may reach your local commissioner to voice concern over the treatment of the elderly residents at Camp Venice (next to Snook Haven.) Their general contact info is: commissioners@scgov.net
Their individual emails is above under their names
Florida is a sunshine state. Robert Kurens: Park Owner According to public records from the Florida Division of Corporations (Sunbiz.org), Robert H. Kurens is the AMBR of Camp Venice LLC, the entity owning Camp Venice RV Resort in Venice, Florida. Kurens, a New York attorney admitted to the bar in 1983, has a history of investing in RV and mobile home properties in Florida. For example, in 2013, he purchased the Myakka River RV Resort for $2.58 million and Tropic Isle Park for $1.66 million, as reported in business news outlets like the Business Observer. He is also associated with other ventures such as Arkay Property Corp. His primary activities appear to involve real estate management. Residents of Camp Venice RV Resort have raised concerns about Kurens' management practices, alleging actions that have led to significant hardship for the 13 mobile home owners facing displacement due to a $14 million sale to Sarasota County. According to long term residents and campers with reservations coming forward, many have filed public complaints with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), for unrefunded deposits. Whistleblower internal documents reveal Kurens has allegedly withheld security deposits totaling over $15,000 for more than 10 families, including one resident's $3k deposit, without providing receipts or timely notices as required under Florida Statutes §83.49. Additionally, residents claim that on August 5, 2025, Kurens sent an email announcing a premature park closure on September 5, 2025, with threats to lock gates and shut off utilities, potentially violating §723.042 (provision of utilities) and §723.0615 (retaliatory conduct). A police report filed on August 5, 2025, documents allegations of altered invoices in the CampSpot reservation system, changing paid statuses to past due, which residents allege is an attempt to avoid refunding deposits. These incidents have forced many residents to sell their homes at low-ball prices ($1,500–$3,000) against $15,000 moving costs, leaving seniors in distress.
Ann Moreland is the General Manager over two of Robert Kurens Mobile Home / RV Parks, Camp Venice and the nearby Myakka River Resort Residents have reported that the park's manager, Ann Moreland, allegedly informed the USPS on August 13, 2025, that the park was closed, leading to all incoming mail being marked "Return to Sender," a move that could interfere with federal mail delivery laws (18 U.S.C. §1701). A police report filed on August 5, 2025, documents allegations of altered invoices in the CampSpot reservation system, changing paid statuses to past due, which residents allege is an attempt to avoid refunding deposits. Many residents and campers have come forward with texts showing promises of refunds only to have them never returned.
